Vi er i den heldige situation, at vi i det danske Ubuntu community har en såkaldt planet. En planet er et sted, er et RSS feed, som egentligt bare samler RSS feeds fra mange forskellige steder og blogs, og det sker typisk ud fra et emne – som fx ‘Ubuntu’.

Der findes også en international Ubuntu planet (http://planet.ubuntu.com), og sågar en nordisk planet som samler feeds fra alle de nordiske blogs (http://planet.ubuntu-nordic.org). Der er med andre masser af Ubuntu blogs og feeds man kan følge med i, hvis man har en særlig interesse i Ubuntu.

Men vi vil gerne have flere på den danske Ubuntu planet!

A while ago the European Nordic countries established a cooperation between LoCo teams, and that cooperation lead to among other things a Nordic blog planet.

The cooperation has now moved another step forward, as we have established a team between us with focus on packaging, development and bug triaging.

It has been hard for all the Nordic LoCo teams indiviually to maintain a stable dev-team, but by combining forces we actually get a pretty strong and interesting team. We are getting ready for Global BugJam!

Så er der under en måned tilbage, før vi for første gang skal afholde Bug Jam i det danske Ubuntu Community.

Bug Jams har efterhånden været en tradition i adskillige LoCo Teams rundt omkring i verden et stykke tid nu, men med Global Bug jam session den 20.-22. februar er det med deltagelse af det danske LoCo team.

Vi mødes den 20. februar på IRC kanalen #ubuntu-dk-bugjam, hvor vi vil hjælpe hinanden med at komme i gang. Og lørdag den 21. februar mødes vi i Århus, hvor vi vil gøre det mere socialt, og hvor vi forhåbentligt også får en masse sjov ud af det, udover – naturligvis – en masse lukkede bugs

A while ago I announced the new cooperation with other Nordic Ubuntu teams, and I’m pleased to announce the first specific steps in that cooperation.

We have created a common planet, which aggregates feeds from the national planets, and the Swedes who made it did a fantastic job (thanks andol, larslj and the rest of you!). The planet has been translated into eight Nordic languages, so it’s ready for the smaller countries if they have blog posts to contribute with.

It is not neccesary to have a national planet to get Ubuntu blog posts in a specific Nordic country. If, for instance, an Icelandic person wants to broadcast his blog to a wider audience, but does not have a national planet to that with, he can use the Nordic Planet.

But the planet is not the only thing we have created until now.

The Danish Team has seen a substantial rise in new active participants in 2008, which has resulted positively in three things:

For one we have more activities now which require debate or decisions made by our monthly IRC meeting. Two, we have expanded our monthly meeting to two monthly meetings, and three, there are a lot more attending the meeting than before.

With the increase in both agenda items and members that want to discuss them, it was necessary to make come up with some guidelines and make the meetings more structured.

2008 er ved at udløbe, og traditionen byder at lave en nytårstale. Sådan skal det også være for Ubuntu Danmark, for 2008 har sandelig været et år, hvor der er sket meget, og er samtidigt også et år, som giver meget stor optimisme for 2009.

I denne artikel ser jeg tilbage på højdepunkterne for Ubuntu og især Ubuntu Danmark, men kigger også lidt fremad på, hvad vi kan forvente os af 2009.

What is it that makes Ubuntu a great project and so successful?

The answers are many and not one particular thing is decisive, but the great community is definitely one of the main reasons. When I look at other international Open Source projects I participate in there are a great portion of dynamics in difference. In the Ubuntu project it is quite hard to keep up with all the interesting projects, the mailinglists and even the Ubuntu participants personally blogs about Ubuntu.

So what it is that makes it such a dynamic community? That easily makes myself spend 20 hours a week after normal work, my girlfriend and my family and friends?

Lørdag den 1. november afholdte vi i Ubuntu Danmark et succesfuldt Ubuntu Live! arrangement på CBS i København, hvor op mod 70 mennesker deltog. Forud for Ubuntu Live! havde en lille gruppe frivillige bidragsydere fundet foredragsholdere, lokaler og alle de andre ting, som er nødvendige.

Ubuntu er blandt verdens største samarbejdsprojekter, og har ikke en mange-millard virksomhed i ryggen, og er derfor afhængig af, at så mange mennesker som mulig verden over, vil være med til at gøre det til dét, som Ubuntu er.

Der er mange måder at bidrage til Ubuntu på, men hvis man ikke ved, hvad man skal gå i gang med, og måske heller ikke synes, at man har tekniske kompetencer nok til det, så er planlægningen af fysiske arrangementer en rigtig god mulighed.

Når jeg fortæller rundt omkring, at en af kommunikationsmetoderne i Ubuntu community’et er den gode gamle chat protokol IRC, bliver jeg ofte mødt af “Jamen, bruges det godt nok stadigvæk? Jeg kan huske dengang…”.

Ja, det bruges stadigvæk. IRC havde sin storhedstid i midten af halvfemserne, og gik derefter bare nedad og nedad i antal brugere. Men op i løbet af det årtusinde, er brugerne igen vendt tilbage til IRC, og denne gang til andre formål end bare almindelig chat, spam og ulovlige downloads.

Her er noget af det, som vi i Ubuntu community’et bruger IRC til.

Søndag den 7. september stiftede en gruppe danske ubuntubrugere Foreningen af Danske Ubuntubrugere.

Foreningen har to primære formål: Nemlig at virke fremmende for udbredelsen af brugen af Ubuntu i Danmark, og at virke som en samlende enhed for alle dem, som er aktive bidragsydere til Ubuntu. I vedtægterne står der bl.a.:

Foreningens primære virke skal være at støtte aktiviteter, som fremmer brugen af Ubuntu. Foreningen kan vælge blot at støtte sådanne aktiviteter eller selv medvirke eller skabe aktiviteterne. Foreningens midler skal benyttes til at understøtte disse formål.
