New guidelines for Danish IRC meetings

The Danish Team has seen a substantial rise in new active participants in 2008, which has resulted positively in three things:

For one we have more activities now which require debate or decisions made by our monthly IRC meeting. Two, we have expanded our monthly meeting to two monthly meetings, and three, there are a lot more attending the meeting than before.

With the increase in both agenda items and members that want to discuss them, it was necessary to make come up with some guidelines and make the meetings more structured.

Nytårstale i Ubuntu Danmark

2008 er ved at udløbe, og traditionen byder at lave en nytårstale. Sådan skal det også være for Ubuntu Danmark, for 2008 har sandelig været et år, hvor der er sket meget, og er samtidigt også et år, som giver meget stor optimisme for 2009.

I denne artikel ser jeg tilbage på højdepunkterne for Ubuntu og især Ubuntu Danmark, men kigger også lidt fremad på, hvad vi kan forvente os af 2009.

Tysk kommune på vej til Ubuntu

Den lille kommune Böblingen syd for Stuttgart afprøver i øjeblikket Ubuntu på sine computere, for at have et alternativ på plads, når kommunens nuværende support- og licensaftale udløber i 2010.

I øjeblikket er der kun tale om et forsøg, og der er ingen beslutning truffet endnu, og det er da også et åbenbart spørgsmål, om Microsoft ikke kommer forsøgets konklusion i forkøbet, og kommer med et tilbud som de ikke kan afslå.

FAIR Danmark får bevilling

Hos FAIR Danmark bliver det helt sikkert en god jul. En pulje under Danida har netop bevilget FAIR Danmark et større beløb til et kommende projekt, hvor tre læringscentre etableres i den lille afrikanske stat Malawi i samarbejde med en lokal NGO.

For de som ikke har læst min tidligere artikel om FAIR Danmark, så er FAIR en organisation, der modtager udtjent elektronik fra virksomheder, og som genbruger bl.a. de PC’er der anses for forældede i danske virksomheder, i Afrika, hvor de fortsat kan bruges 5-6 år.

Ubuntu in national Danish TV again

For the second time in less than two month, Ubuntu has appeared in national Danish TV.

In October the Danish LoCo team had the most insane month ever. We started the month with a big whole-paged article about Ubuntu in the largest Danish tabloid newspaper starring our forum moderator as an example of a Ubuntu user with children using it as well.

Next we had eight articles in various online medias Monday and Tuesday the week of the release – only with Danish perspectives on Ubuntu; the international news about Ubuntu are not counted!

Wednesday in the release week was the big day: National Danish TV (DR1), our equivalent to BBC,  had a 25 minutes show about Open Source, where a familiy of four tried Ubuntu in 14 days. They were really happy about it, and intended to keep it. I need not to say, that this show got us all VERY busy in the support forums and other places…
