The birth of a new planet

A while ago I announced the new cooperation with other Nordic Ubuntu teams, and I’m pleased to announce the first specific steps in that cooperation.

We have created a common planet, which aggregates feeds from the national planets, and the Swedes who made it did a fantastic job (thanks andol, larslj and the rest of you!). The planet has been translated into eight Nordic languages, so it’s ready for the smaller countries if they have blog posts to contribute with.

It is not neccesary to have a national planet to get Ubuntu blog posts in a specific Nordic country. If, for instance, an Icelandic person wants to broadcast his blog to a wider audience, but does not have a national planet to that with, he can use the Nordic Planet.

But the planet is not the only thing we have created until now.

Det lange seje træk

Jeg kan godt lide at løbe. Smide en podcast på MP3-afspilleren og så ellers afsted. Henrik Føns, Julius Bismarck og en lidt halv-tung jogger passer skam godt sammen. Men der er også så mange spændende ting ved computeren, man kan give sig til, eller der er nogle spændende frivillige fritidsprojekter, man kan give en hjælpende hånd, og så er der jo kæresten, madlavningen, oprydningen, rengøringen, (sofaen), og alle de andre ting…

Det korte af det lange er, at jeg godt kan lide at løbe – men jeg får det bare ikke gjort nok. Det bliver kun til et par kilometer en gang om ugen eller to.

Så torsdag i sidste i de sidste timer af arbejdsdagen, sad jeg og genoplivede en gammel (7-8 år) drøm om at gennemføre et marathon. Det tog mig ikke mange timer at overbevise mig selv, at nu skulle det være, og 2009 bliver året, hvor jeg gør det.

Virksomhedsblogs på Planet Ubuntu

Lige før jul, nærmere betegnet den 16. december, afholde Ubuntus Community Council et af deres sædvanlige møder på IRC. For dem som ikke er bekendt med Community Council, så er det Ubuntus øverste råd (council), som består af 4 valgte medlemmer samt Ubuntu-stifteren Mark Shuttleworth.

Mark Shuttleworth går på IRC under nick’et sabdfl, som er et akronym for Self Appointed Benevolent Dictator For Life: Selvudnævnt og godgørende diktator på livstid. Betegnelsen dækker blandt andet over hans plads i Community Council, hvor han har en fast rettighed til at være med.

Community Council mødes cirka 1-2 gange om ugen, og beslutter ofte ting som har mere principiel karakter for Ubuntu community’et.

Og den 16. december var der sådan et punkt på dagsorden: Spørgsmålet om Corporate blogs (virksomheders blogs)  på Planet Ubuntu.

Nytårstale i Ubuntu Danmark

2008 er ved at udløbe, og traditionen byder at lave en nytårstale. Sådan skal det også være for Ubuntu Danmark, for 2008 har sandelig været et år, hvor der er sket meget, og er samtidigt også et år, som giver meget stor optimisme for 2009.

I denne artikel ser jeg tilbage på højdepunkterne for Ubuntu og især Ubuntu Danmark, men kigger også lidt fremad på, hvad vi kan forvente os af 2009.

Nordic LoCo Teams in cooperation

In a blog posts, Jono brings up the topic of how we can improve the way LoCo teams work and how to increase cooperating between teams. The Ubuntu project has 170 Local Community Teams in almost just as may countries, but not everyone is equally big, and some even consists of only a few persons.

Starting a LoCo Team and get it to grow is not an easy task, and getting the ball to roll is the hardest of all the tasks.

The European Nordic countries share similiar languages and cultures, and though they definitely are not the same, they share great many things. So about a half year ago I proposed on my blog that the Nordic countries should cooperate a lot more. While everybody thought it was a great idea, the only specific things that came out of it was a wiki page and an IRC channel.

So this blog post explores the idea of a regional cooperation can optimize LoCo Teams that share geography, culture, language or other important things that constitutes a society.
